University College Dublin vs Shelbourne Match Analysis and Prediction

Two sides in the bottom half of the Ireland Premier table will go head to head on Friday, as University College Dublin continues to try and push themselves out of the bottom place as the host Shelbourne.

The visitors ended up with a game off last weekend due to a postponement, and will now be looking to get straight back into action with full force.

University College Dublin have endured a tough season so far, but during their last game they were able to bring an end to their six-game winless streak.

The Students pulled out a rare victory, which was only their second of the entire campaign when they made the trip to Sligo Rovers, as they continue to fight for survival.

Andrew Myler’s side now return home for their latest encounter, but it is in front of their own fans where they have struggled the most, as they have not won a single match at the UCD Bowl in the league this season.

However, UCD are now level on points with Finn Harps who sit above them in the relegation playoff spot, which will give them plenty of hope heading into Friday.

Meawhile, Shelborne will be looking to push themselves further up the table as well as they currently sit in seventh place.

A run of victories could easily see them move some spots though, with only eight points separating them and fourth place.

After their scheduled game last week against Shamrock Rovers was postponed, Shelbourne have not played since July 8 when they picked up a 3-1 win over Finn Harps, which is a result they will be hoping to repeat this time around.

When the two side met earlier this season, Shelbourne came out on top with a 2-0 victory through goals on either side of the interval.

University College Dublin news

Sam Todd dropped out of the UCD side for their previous match due to a red card, and it is likely that Michael Gallagher will retain his place in the heart of the back four.

The hosts are still without leading goalscorer Colm Whelan, who is currently sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury.

Shelbourne news

The visitors recently signed former Norwich City right winger Josh Giurgi, and he will have the chance to make his debut for the club this week.

Sean McSweeney and Daniel Hawkins both missed out on the most recent game due to injury, but after a long break, they could be potential options.

Prediction and Odds

Shelbourne head into the contest as the firm favourites simply due to the league positioning and the poor home form of the hosts throughout the season.

With their victory last time out, University College Dublin could be out to put in another strong performance, potentially picking up another point in the process.
