Warhammer Age of Sigmar February Battlescroll – All the Important Changes of the Latest AoS Balance Update

The Warhammer Age of Sigmar February Battlescroll is here, bringing some much needed buffs and nerfs to the Mortal Realms!

After the January Warhammer 40k Balance Dataslate, the Age of Sigmar Battlescroll is finally here! The residents of the Mortal Realms have received a number of changes to both rules and points of certain units, which should shake up some things in the meta. Let’s look over them and try to assess how impactful they will be!

Warhammer Age of Sigmar February Battlescroll – Rules Changes

Core Changes

• One of the General’s Handbook Core Battalions, Wizard-Finders of Andtor now has an ability to negate spells, effects and endless spells on a 5+, which is a great way to counter this magic-heavy meta.
• A new core Battle Tactic called Drain Their Power has been added, which requires you to contest an objective your opponent controlled with a Nullstone Adornment Hero.
• The Power Flux Battleplan now only gives you VP once per Battle Round instead of the end of each turn, so you can’t double up even if you kill a Wizard in your opponent’s turn.
• The range of Malevolent Maelstrom’s explosion has been nerfed to 9” so it’s much less oppressive.

Grand Alliance of Chaos Changes

Blades of Khorne

A new ability called Hatred of Sorcery counters your OWN spells on a 5+, so it’s much harder to cheat magic into a Khorne army.

Maggotkin of Nurgle

Sloppity Bilepiper’s “My Love Is Like a Ripe, Ripe Fart” ability now gives -1 to Hit to any attack targeting Nurgle Daemons wholly within 14” of the Herald of Nurgle, which makes a tanky army even tankier.

Beasts of Chaos

The weapons of Gors and Tzaangors now have a 2” range – this is a buff a LOT of armies got, and its to bring them more in line with stronger infantry and let them fight in 2 rows instead of 1.

Skaven

The Flee-flee! Battle Tactic has been changed, now you only need 2 Skaven units to retreat instead of a unit and a Hero. This makes it completable even if all your characters died.

Plague Monks also had their unit sizes changed to 20, which makes them stronger reinforced as well.

Slaves to Darkness

The Daemon Prince’s bigger weapons now have 2 extra attack, while Malefic Talons now hits 12 times instead of 8, which should make the Prince a lot deadlier.

Disciples of Tzeentch

Just like the Beasts of Chaos ones, Tzaangors now have a 2” melee attack. The Pink Horrors/Blue Horrors/Brimstone Horrors now have a more compact profile as well, but they mostly do the same.

Grand Alliance of Order

Stormcast Eternals

The melee weapons of Vanquishers now have a 2” range – GW seems to like letting melee units actually fight in melee.

Seraphon

The Lord of Celestial Resonance now only gives 2 cosmic power points on the first cast/unbind/dispel instead of each one.

While the Starborne have been nerfed, the Coalesced have been buffed as both version of Kroxigor got an extra wound.

Cities of Sigmar

Alchemite Warforger got a huge buffs, as the Blazing Weapons ability now only works with melee weapons instead of every attack made by CoS units. This should decrease the lethality of the Cities of Sigmar – they did get the nerfs after winning LVO!

Idoneth Deepkin

The Bloodthirsty Shivers now automatically wound on a 6 to Hit instead of having exploding hits.

The Eidolon of Mathlann Aspect of the Sea’s Tsunami of Terror spell now also has up to 3 targets instead of D3, which makes the Hero much more reliable – maybe it will see some play?

Fyreslayers

Just like the Beasts and Tzaangors, both versions of Berzerkers had their melee weapon range increased to 2”, so the angry dwarves can fight easier now.

Grand Alliance of Death

Nighthaunt

The Bladegheist Revenants, the Dreadscythe Harridans and the Glaivewraith Stalkers now have 2” melee weapons (which is a great change!)

Ossiarch Bonereapers

The Null Myriad’s Eldritch Nulls rule triggers on a 4+ instead of a 3+, so ignoring effects will be a bit harder for the skellingtons.

Soulblight Gravelords

The Grasping Dead Battle Tactic became a bit harder as the Summonable unit now actually has to kill the enemy unit it’s near to.

Grand Alliance of Destruction

Orruk Warclans

The Sneak Up Battle Tactic is now only available if you have a Kruleboyz General, so it’s basically Kruleboyz only now.

The Dat’s Our Turf Now Battle Tactic received the same treatment, but it only works for Ironjawz Generals.

The Big Pig units (so everything that rides a Maw-grunta) now only loses Momentum once per battle round instead of each turn, so you don’t have to slow your pigs down as much!

Sons of Behemat

The Earth-shaking Roar Monstrous Rampage now has a new ability, as it denies orders on a 3+ on the unit it’s used on – which is really just a QoL change.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar February Battlescroll – Points Changes

While the points changes are numerous, there are some highlights which are worthy to talk about:

• The Daughters of Khaine, the Disciples of Tzeentc, the Flesh-eater Courts, the Fyreslayers, the Hedonites of Slaanesh, the Ogor Mawtribes, the Nighthaunt, the Orruk Warclans, the Sons of Behemat, the Sylvaneth and the Stormcast Eternals only got points reductions,
• The Kharadron Overlords were hit the hardest, receiving 8 nerfs and only 1 buff,
• The Skaven got the most changes with 14, 11 buffs and 3 nerfs

The Warhammer Age of Sigmar app has been updated as well, so you can start crafting new lists with the changes in mind! With 4^th Edition reportedly coming in a few months, this last stretch of the current version of Age of Sigmar should be good, as these changes were more than needed (especially the 2” ranges across the board).
