If you’re like me, you weren’t expecting actual puzzles in AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative. Upon investigating the Naix President, Tokiko Shigure’s, office and reenacting the steps to open a secret passageway, the game throws a curveball: solve this puzzle or turn the game off. It’s a bit jarring, seeing as you only got to take a brief look at the numbers and nonuple X rhombus before being told that you need to figure a code out. Unlike some other puzzles in the game, even if you can’t figure it out, it won’t give you anything more than what you need to solve the puzzle.
Solving it isn’t actually difficult at all. Before I straight-up give you the answer, I’ll break down how you’re meant to go about solving it, in case you want to understand what exactly you’re meant to do to come to the proper conclusion. You’ll see the hint in the image below. The code has seven digits and there are seven rows of numbers. As the rhombus is made up of nine Xs, it’s not hard to realize that X is often used for multiplication. Simply multiply the contents of each vertical row to get one of the seven digits needed to open the way.
You start from the left, so it’s 4, 3 x 3, 2 x 0 x 2, 1 x 1 x 1 x 1, 2 x 0 x 2, 3 x 3, and 5. Multiplying them out will give you the answer, which is 4904095. Put that in and you’ll soon find yourself a little bit closer to the truth. Just go ahead and enter the number into the field and you’ll have this puzzle in the rearview. Don’t worry, later puzzles are notably harder, so you’ll have more chances to get stumped and then try and Google yourself out of the hole you’re in. Somnium scan, activate!
