Bayonetta Creator Says Nintendo Never Asked Them To Censor Series

After adding a no-nudity mode to Bayonetta 3, series creator Hideki Kamiya explained that Nintendo has never asked PlatinumGames to censor anything.

Bayonetta 3 is getting a “naive angle” game mode that stops the titular character from getting naked and adds less revealing clothing to other characters, like the demonic character that was shown off in the trailer for the mode.

Kamiya posted a tweet regarding the naive angel mode and his studio’s relationship with Nintendo. The complete translation is below (via NintendoLife).

“I see a lot of people bring up Nintendo when discussing the nudity in Bayonetta, but during our time with the Bayonetta 1 port, Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3, the only suggestion we received was regarding the Link costume in Bayonetta 1 and 2, and how it should have been a little bit more revealing.”

Kamiya continued, “No bias influenced that aspect of the game, and I think players can enjoy the game without worrying that it may have been…after working with them [Nintendo] for such a long time, I get the impression that although there are times where we may butt heads, they’re surprisingly open to direct discussions around development and sales.”

The implication of Kamiya’s message is that some parties were claiming the addition of the naive angel mode was a suggestion of Nintendo’s. According to Kamiya, this is not the case and Nintendo has never asked them to make their games less explicit. In fact, Kamiya said Nintendo is surprisingly easy to work with.

Bayonetta 3 is releasing on October 28 of this year exclusively on Nintendo Switch
