degster says he won't join a CIS team that isn't NAVI: “I prefer Europe”

Abdul “degster” Gasanov got off to a good start to his adventure as a stand-in for OG in Lisbon, helping the international team to take a 2-1 win over Natus Vincere in the absence of Mateusz “mantuu” Wilczewski.

The Russian posted a 1.10 rating in the opening series, and following it, spoke to outlet Pley.gg and made it clear that playing on an international team is his priority.

degster sees this event as an opportunity to showcase himself

“I never said that I don’t want to relocate from Russia,” degster said when asked about minimizing his opportunities due to the way he left Spirit, explaining that it was the speed of the relocation, not the relocation itself that was the problem.

“I just said to my organization that I’m not okay to live in Serbia. It is not impossible for me to be in Serbia in June and be ready. They asked me to move forward and be faster with it. That is why I decided to leave. I don’t have this time and I felt that if I leave Russia right now, my home with a lot of stuff that I haven’t touched in the last three months, I will not feel comfortable or in good shape, in my opinion.”

When asked if he was open to leaving Russia for a team based in another country, degster stated that it depends on the offers and that teams “should contact me and we should speak about it.” He shortly expanded, making certain that moving to an international team is the AWPer’s priority.

“This [playing with OG] is a chance for me to show that I can play in a team that speaks English. As I am thinking right now, I will never join a CIS team,” degster said. “Only if that would be NAVI, in other situations I prefer Europe more than CIS.”

degster and OG continue their road at the BLAST Premier Spring Finals today at 20:00 when they face off against another international squad in ENCE.
