Eagles vs Giants NFL Betting Odds & Predictions for Week 14

The New York Giants (7-4-1) actually sprinted out to a 6-1 start to the season which included impressive wins at Tennessee and Green Bay, as well as at home against Baltimore. Since then, though, the team has gone 1-3-1, getting thumped by Seattle and Detroit, losing in Dallas on Thanksgiving Day and tying Washington at home. Next up is a visit from the Philadelphia Eagles (11-1), whose only blemish was a home loss on Monday Night Football to Washington. Since then, though, the Eagles have bounced back, winning three in a row, including a 35-10 shellacking of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. If you’re planning on including this NFC East showdown in your NFL betting this weekend, don’t miss our preview.

Why should you bet on the Eagles?

In their win over Tennessee, it’s hard to say whether the offense or the defense was more impressive. Jalen Hurts set a season high with 380 passing yards and threw for three touchdowns, and the Eagles’ offense outgained Tennessee, 453-209. Wide receiver A.J. Brown had a huge day against his former team, as the Tennessee secondary simply could not keep up with Philadelphia’s route schemes.

The defense was also terrific, shutting down Derrick Henry and the Titans’ running game. When Henry is on, the Titan offense is difficult to stop, because he just keeps pounding the ball downhill, and Ryan Tannehill chips in with efficient passing to keep drives moving. With the Eagles snagging the early lead, Tannehill had to do more passing, and the Eagles were able to get pressure on him, time and time again, ending drives before the Titans could even move into field goal range. If you like the Eagles, you see them working similarly against the Giants’ offense, which tends to be run-first behind Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones.

Why should you put your money on the Giants?

New York did cover the spread against Washington, going in as 2 ½-point underdogs, but they were still outgained by 95 yards and have been outgained in six of their last seven contests. Their early success this season was based on Barkley moving the ball on the ground, with Daniel Jones adding runs of his own or making timely throws. The key has been Jones’ improved ball security this season, as he has his turnovers way down.

The Giants’ defense can mount a solid pass rush, and they can make Jalen Hurts move in the pocket. The problem is that Hurts throws extremely well on the run and can take off and do a lot of damage with his legs. The Giants should focus on containment rather than sacking and pursuing Hurts as aggressively, particularly on RPO and zone-read plays.

Final Score and Prediction

The Eagles seem to have had their wake-up call of the season in that loss to Washington, while the Giants seem to have lost that early-season magic. The Giants can still snag a wild card, but they need to get another winning streak going. I don’t see that happening this week, given how well the Eagles are playing on this side of the ball. I predict a final score of Philadelphia 30, New York 20.
