Farthest Frontier – What’s Coming In v0.8.0 Update

Crate Entertainment’s city builder Farthest Frontier, out now on Steam Early Access, is getting another big update soon, an update big enough to warrant a blog post detailing the upcoming changes.

Version 0.8.0 will see a slew of changes thanks to fan feedback, as well as some new content to play with.

Some of the small, but meaningful changes includes how AI workers complete their jobs, tutorials on how desirability and farming work and various quality-of-life improvements.

The AI changes will see workers will distribute themselves more evenly when doing roads/building/walls/upkeep construction. Road and wall construction sites will be treated as multiple build tasks rather than a job for one builder- so a long stretch of a road upgrade will see more workers working on it for instance, which should make building these faster.

Plus, Grocers now will be better at stocking nearby shelters with goods, so other villagers won’t have to spend their time manually restocking at the market and let the Grocers do their job.

The ones we are excited about the most are the Flatten Tool will be more powerful at flattening terrain, letting cows graze the farmlands to increase fertility, relocatable and salvageable condemned buildings and a priority option for wall building.

As for content, you get to decorate your village with more fences, ornamental trees and other decorations.

The v0.8.0 update will go live sometime in November, and a public playtest branch with this update should go live later this month.

It’s a more minor update in terms of content compared to the last time around. Still, in a game that’s crucial to have all its systems and mechanics tick properly like Farthest Frontier is, all the small changes and tweaks add up to a better experience. It’s a good thing this is still in Early Access.

Farthest Frontier is available now on PC via Steam, in Early Access. You can find out what we think of the game in its Early Access form here.
