First 16 minutes of Gotham Knights highlight Batgirl in action

Gotham Knights is a new open-world action RPG from developer Warner Bros. Games Montréal. Some of its most prominent features include its cooperative gameplay and the fact that players will be able to take on the roles of one of four members of the Bat family. Now, Warner Bros. Games has revealed an extended look at the beginning of Gotham Knights while playing as Batgirl.

In Gotham Knights, players can choose between characters that include Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood. The premise of the game revolves around the death of Batman, and how his students must rise to the challenge of protecting Gotham in his absence.

The Gotham Knights gameplay video from IGN shows off what seems like a tutorial level, as the Batgirl player is introduced to the game. The official description of the video reads: “This section of Gotham Knights 4K gameplay follows the Gotham Knights prologue – which WB Montreal is still keeping secret – and will be the first time you take control of a character. After picking your Gotham Knights character, this section serves to tutorialise some of the game’s basic traversal and combat mechanics as well as introduce you to the wider mystery taking place in Gotham following the death of Batman.”

The strong get stronger

IGN provided further details on Gotham Knights in an accompanying article. In an interview, Creative Director Patrick Redding made it clear that despite being an action RPG with skill trees, players will still feel powerful from the beginning. The characters will all initially feel similar, but they will diverge as players unlock distinct skills.

“It was very important for us that these heroes, our Knights are… They’re already awesome at the start of the game. It’s not a function of them being ineffective as crime fighters, quite the opposite. They are all effectively graduates of the Batman School of Crime Fighting.”

Gotham Knights will be released on PC on October 25.
