Here’s a spooky game releasing around the spooky time of the year, Simulacra 3. Developed by Malaysia-based indie developer Kaigan Games, Simulacra 3 invites you to again explore a horror experience through the lens of someone else’s phone.

Simulacra 3 will see you investigating the horrors that lie in the town of Stonecreek, where people are vanishing in thin air leaving only strange symbols. Rumours say this is the work of the Beldam, the ghost of a witch.

As an intern at the local paper, you will be assisting the town’s star journalist Ruby Myers to investigate this case. And you do so by using the phone of one Paul Castillo, software developer, amateur Stonecreek historian, and now missing.

Unlike past games, Simulacra 3 is a bit more active, in that there will be real-time events that you must respond to, like video calls or hacking security systems, and this may decide the fate of characters. It’s not just passively discovering the files in the phone, you also will be actively supporting Ruby as she investigates the town.

Kaigan Games is now a mainstay name in the found-phone horror subgenre and even made a Doctor Who game utilising the same format previously.

If the idea of experiencing horror but only through phone-based UI sounds intriguing, Simulacra 3 might be up your jam.

Simulacra 3 is out now on PC via Steam, as well as on iOS and Android.
