MOONTON Games and Riot Games reach a settlement | GosuGamers

A long-term intellectual property feud between Riot Games and MOONTON Games has come to an end after several long years of battle.

For many years, across the gaming industry, companies have entered into legal disputes with one another over intellectual property (IP). We have seen the likes of Nintendo shutting down many clones of their Pokémon franchise in the gaming world – while they let a game like Palworld (which seemed to be rather close to their IP for its short-lived few weeks) get away with it. However, one battle that arose quite quickly in recent years was that between MOONTON Games, publishes of the acclaimed Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, having a legal battle with Riot Games, creators of League of Legends: Wild Rift.

While the court battles went back and forth, with Riot appealing multiple times, as of today, April 2nd, 2024, it has all come to an end. In a statement that was received just prior to the time of writing, it has been confirmed that Riot has decided to formally withdraw all related lawsuits, as both parties have signed a settlement agreement.

This is massive news for both sides, after these disputes have been ongoing for some time, and will now allow for a more harmonious ecosystem across the esports industry.
