NASCAR Weekend Action with Cup Series and Xfinity Series

Both the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Cup Series are in the middle of playoffs, just a few weeks away from the Championship 4 race that will crown a champion. Kansas Motor Speedway is the site of both series’ races, with the Xfinity Series race coming on Saturday and the Cup Series running on Sunday.

We have a NASCAR betting overview of both races, and we also have the odds for the drivers, along with some suggestions for your wager cards.

NASCAR Weekend Preview (October 22-24)

NASCAR Xfinity Series | Saturday, October 23

Kansas Lottery 300 (3:00 pm ET, NBC)

John Hunter Nemechek won last week’s Xfinity Series race, the Andy’s Frozen Custard 335 at Texas Motor Speedway. In the Xfinity Series playoffs, eight drivers still remain in the hunt for the last four spots. Brandon Jones has won two of the last three races here. So even though he has yet to win a race in 2021 and would likely need a win here or next week to make the Championship 4, he’s worth considering here due to his success on this track.

Daniel Hemric comes in with a lot of potential again, but he has a tendency to lead numerous laps before falling apart in the last minutes to watch someone else take the checkered flag. In his last three races at Kansas Motor Speedway, he has finishes of second, seventh and second, respectively. Justin Allgaier has an average finish of 3.8 in his last four starts on 1 ½-mile tracks, with the exception of Darlington, due to its difference in layout.

Justin Allgaier finished as the runner-up in Las Vegas, where the course is similar to what we see at Kansas. He finished behind Josh Berry — who is not in this field, so Allgaier is an interesting choice. Noah Gragson came in third at Las Vegas, which also has a high groove. Gragson was headed toward a solid result at Kansas last fall, but a wreck during a restart in Stage 1 ended his day early. Austin Cindric lost a lead at Las Vegas due to a caution coming at an unlucky time for him, during a restart, and that pushed A.J. Allmendinger into the lead. Cindric could not recover and ended up finishing fourth.

Kyle Larson has snagged one of the Championship 4 spots in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, which means that there are three spots remaining for the other seven in the Round of 8 to fight over. Those seven drivers have combined for 15 race wins and 37 stage wins this season, so this is an extremely competitive group.

Ryan Blaney (+17), Denny Hamlin (+9) and Kyle Busch (+8) hold the top three remaining spots, while Joey Logano is seventh in this group, 43 points below the cut line after a DNF a week ago. If Logano can win the Hollywood Casino 400, he would jump into second place. He has three playoff wins in his career, the most for any driver at this track.

Chase Elliott, the defending Cup Series champion, is eight points back of Kyle Busch and is just under the last transfer spot. Brad Keselowski (-15) and Martin Truex Jr (-22) are both former champions, and they are both former Cup Series champions.
