The world, called Valesthea, is a dying one and yet the many kingdoms are preparing for war. The actors of this pending theatre of war include the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, The Holy Empire of Sanbreque, The Dhalmekian Republic, The Iron Kingdom and the Kingdom of Waloed.

At the center of this impending bloodshed for power are the Dominants, the few folks that can summon the Eikons, and how mistreated they are during this conflict.

Final Fantasy XVI paints a dark, gritty, medieval fantasy world and in the context of the Final Fantasy series, is quite the refreshing direction.

We also get to see some more snippets of gameplay. It’s definitely a character action game with RPG elements than it is an RPG or an action-RPG.

Final Fantasy XVI director Hiroshi Takai said that the development team “has turned its full attention to debugging and final adjustments”, which means it’s now in the final bug-testing and bug fixing, or QA, stage. Looks like the game is nearly complete.

Final Fantasy XVI is set for release sometime in Summer (Q3) 2023.
