PGA Tour 2K23 Tees Off This October

After a year of hiatus, 2K and HB Studios’ golf game is back for this year in the form of PGA Tour 2K23. This time with Tiger Woods as the cover athlete.

The golfing great isn’t just there to be a playable character and sit on the iron throne made up of golf irons. He’s also credited as an Executive Director where he advises the game development team.

“It’s not only great to be back on the cover of a video game, but the Executive Director role makes this a truly unique opportunity,” said Woods. “2K is the perfect partner for me and I am excited to continue impacting the game and culture of golf beyond my play on the PGA Tour.”

Woods have been the cover star of EA’s PGA Tour games in the early 2000s, so having him on 2K’s game, while EA is making golf games again starting next year, is quite the coup by 2K.

Joining Woods are more than 14 pros, male and female, available at launch. Justin Thomas (PGA Tour 2K21’s cover star), Lexi Thompson, Tony Finau, Lydia Ko, Collin Morikawa, Will Zalatoris and Brooke Henderson are the confirmed names so far.

PGA Tour 2K23 will also offer 20 licensed golf courses at launch. Confirmed so far are the South Course of Wilmington Country Club, The Renaissance Club and St. George’s Golf and Country Club.

The Course Designer, the robust tool to make your own beautiful/cursed courses and share it online, will still be available.

More PGA Tour pros and courses will be added as free post-launch DLC, available to all players.

From the announcement trailer, 2K really is betting big you like your in-game golfer be dripping. Brands like Callaway Golf, FootJoy, Malbon Golf, Nike Golf, PUMA, Titleist and TravisMathew for clothing will be available. As for the equipment, the game has Bridgestone Golf, Callaway Golf, COBRA, Mizuno, Odyssey Golf, Scotty Cameron, TaylorMade, Titleist and Wilson.

Also, Woods’ personal sponsors Nike Golf, TaylorMade and Bridgestone Golf will also be presented as well in the form of attire as well as clubs and balls.

New for PGA Tour 2K23 is the inclusion of Topgolf, a driving range filled with mini-games to emulate the actual thing. There’s also a training mode to practice your swings, chips and putting as well as lessons to get newcomers and beginners up to speed.

Expect the other game modes to return. You can play as any of the pro golfers in exhibition, multiplayer and Divot Derby (a battle royale-ish mode, yes, in a golf game) modes. Or get your player character to glory by climbing the leaderboard in the PGA Tour MyCareer mode.

On a weird note, PGA Tour 2K23 offers dual-entitlement (includes PS4 and PS5 version for PlayStation, and Xbox Series X|S/ Xbox One for Xbox) for its standard edition… but only for PS5 and Xbox Series standard edition. So essentially, there is a free last-gen downgrade? Because the PS4/Xbox One standard edition does not contain a free next-gen upgrade, and is priced at the regular $60 USD price compared to the PS5/ Xbox Series versions which are at $70 USD.

PGA Tour 2K23 tees off on the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S on October 14.
