Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s First Free Update Adds New Monsters, New Locale

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the expansion to Capcom’s Monster Hunter: Rise, is receiving its first free update today.

Free Title Update 1, or Version 11, adds four new monsters, a new locale and even a new system alongside new upgrades to weapons and armour.

The new monsters, Silver Rathalos, Gold Rathian, Lucent Nargacuga and Seething Bazelguese will require players reaching at least Master Rank 10 to unlock, as these are more powerful monsters to hunt. They also drop materials for new armour that have new skills, a good reason to take them down repeatedly.

The Forlorn Arena is the new locale being added. It’s a ruin filled with ancient heritage, and where monsters like the Lucent Nargacuga resides.

The new update has expanded on Afflicted Monsters, monsters that have gone berserk. These cannot be captured and can afflict players with the Bloodblight status. But they can be taken down. These appear post-game, where a new Anomaly Quest will appear. Completing that quest awards you with Afflicted Materials, used to upgrade weapons to rarity 10.

With the new update, more Anomaly Quests featuring Afflicted Monsters such as Lunagaron, Astalos, and Magma Almudron. Plus, there’s a new system in the form of Anomaly Investigations.

These are essentially random quests where the parameters of what monster to hunt, the locale, and number of players can participate are randomised. Completing these will earn you new materials used for the new upgrade system, Qurious Crafting. This allows weapons and armour of rarity 10 to have augmentation slots.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is also receiving new event quests starting August 18, and new paid cosmetic DLCs.

This is the first of three free title updates to arrive this year, with plans for more updates coming in 2023.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is now available on Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam).
