Private Division has announced they are working with Weta Workshop on a new game set in the Middle-earth universe, created by J.R.R. Tolkien made famous from The Lord Of The Rings trilogy of movies.

Weta Workshop, the renowned New Zealand-based special effects and propmaker in the film industry, is the game developer, via their own interactive game division which was set up back in 2014.

“The Lord of the Rings IP is home to so many remarkable stories, and no entity is better equipped than the team at Weta Workshop to create a distinctive, new Middle-earth gaming experience,” says Michael Worosz, Chief Strategy Officer, Take-Two Interactive, and Head of Private Division.

“As fans ourselves, we’re excited for gamers to explore Middle-earth in a way they never have before, and introduce new fans to the magic of The Lord of the Rings,” says Amie Wolken, Head of Interactive at Weta Workshop.

There are no details regarding what sort of game it will be other than its chosen setting. It’s still in early development, but has an expected launch window to be within Private Division’s parent company Take-Two’s Fiscal Year 2024, which spans from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.
