NFL Quarterbacks Betting Odds: Rivalries for Week 8

The number one position that separates teams with a shot from teams in a rebuild is quarterback. Obviously, for a team to contend, two solid lines and a running game also help, as does a stingy defense, but if you think quarterback is a position where teams can skimp, just ask any Chicago Bears fan how long they’ve been waiting for a legitimate franchise quarterback. You could also go ask John Elway the same question in Denver, ever since Peyton Manning left town. Let’s look at each quarterback matchup in Week 8 and talk about how it could influence your online betting choices.

NFL News: Quarterback Matchups in Week 8

Thursday, October 27

Baltimore Ravens (-1.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8:15 pm ET, Prime Video)

Tom Brady vs Lamar Jackson? Jackson does have an NFL MVP trophy on his shelf, but his playoff problems are just one reason why we trust Brady a lot more under pressure, especially on a short week.

Sunday, October 30

Denver Broncos (+3.5) vs Jacksonville Jaguars (9:30 am ET, ESPN+)

This week’s London game could be tough for Denver. Will Russell Wilson be recovered from his hamstring injury? Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars showed some momentum against the Giants – and have a less impressive offense playing against them this week.

Carolina Panthers (+6) at Atlanta Falcons (1:00 pm ET, FOX)

Carolina will roll P.J. Walker out there once again, and D’Onta Foreman will continue to pound the ball on the ground. Atlanta also has a stout running game, led by Tyler Allgeier and Marcus Mariota. With two run-first offenses, you have to look at both quarteraback.

Chicago Bears (+10.5) at Dallas Cowboys (1:00 pm ET, FOX)

The Bears just beat New England by 23, and the Cowboys couldn’t get out of their own way against Detroit until the fourth quarter. I think the Bears get a momentum boost out of this game, while the Cowboys’ offense continues to flounder.

Las Vegas Raiders (-2) at New Orleans Saints (1:00 pm ET, CBS)

The Raiders will roll with tailback Josh Jacobs and then let Derek Carr fill in the gaps against a New Orleans secondary that has difficulties in coverage. The Saints could have Jameis Winston back, but he will look rusty. Even so, he has Chris Olave and Alvin Kamara to move the ball for him.

Pittsburgh Steelers (+11) at Philadelphia Eagles (1:00 pm ET)

Kenny Pickett continues his rookie campaign with a start on the other side of the state. The offense is making too many mistakes, though, and the Eagles get to come out of the bye to focus on a rookie quarterback. Expect Jalen Hurts to find plenty of targets down the field against a less than superb Pittsburgh secondary.

New England Patriots (-1) at N.Y. Jets (1:00 pm ET, CBS)

Zach Wilson looked a lot more intimidating when he had Breece Hall to hand the ball off to, but the inconsistent play of Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe against Chicago has me liking the Jets’ signal caller to win this duel.

Arizona Cardinals (+3.5) at Minnesota Vikings (1:00 pm ET, FOX)

Minnesota had a bye last week, while Arizona played on Thursday. DeAndre Hopkins is back, which means Arizona’s offense can return to life – and the defense is getting some starch as well. Cardinals to cover.

Miami Dolphins (+3) at Detroit Lions (1:00 pm ET, CBS)

A fumble at the one-yard line in Dallas kept the Lions from knocking off the Cowboys. The problem is that Amon-Ra St. Brown has gone down, along with other contributors, on the offense, and the team’s defense hasn’t been particularly good. I keep waiting for Jared Goff to break out, but Tua Tagovailoa already looks further along the learning curve.

Tennessee Titans (-2) at Houston Texans (4:05 pm ET, CBS)

Ryan Tannehill faces an ankle sprain, which means the Titans might start rookie Malik Willis and put the ball in the hands of Derrick Henry. Houston has a cover-two defense that isn’t bad, and tailback Dameon Pierce can lead a running game. Even so, Davis Mills will likely be overmatched by Tannehill, and even if Willis plays, Mills has a difficult secondary staring at him.

N.Y. Giants (+3) at Seattle Seahawks (4:25 pm ET, FOX)

Geno Smith has been quietly putting up huge numbers since taking the job from Drew Lock. Daniel Jones has stopped turning the ball over as much, but Smith is the one I trust putting balls in tight windows late.

Washington Commanders (+4) at Indianapolis Colts (4:25 pm ET, FOX)

Taylor Heinicke against Sam Ehlinger? Expect the Commanders to pester Ehlinger in his first NFL start, and expect Heinicke to build on that momentum that he started against Green Bay.

San Francisco 49ers (-2) at L.A. Rams (4:25 pm ET, FOX)

Jimmy G against Matthew Stafford is a matchup that Stafford should win with his talent, but I”m not sure if Stafford can avoid the turnover bug.

Green Bay Packers (+11) at Buffalo Bills (8:20 pm ET, NBC)

There was a time when a matchup between Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen would have been must-watch television, but Rodgers just lost a duel with Washington backup Taylor Heinicke.

Monday, October 31

Cincinnati Bengals (-3) at Cleveland Browns (8:15 pm ET, ESPN)

Joe Burrow against Jacoby Brissett? Burrow might throw for 500 yards this week, while Brissett will be lucky to crack 200.
