PS VR2 Quality-Of-Life Features Include See-Through View, Customisable Play Area

Sony gives a bit of a glimpse of what new features you can expect from the PS VR2, the next-gen VR headset offering that pairs with a PS5.

And you can expect some nice, much-needed quality-of-life features designed not to bog down the experience when you are strapped into the headset.

For one, there’s a see-through view, which allows you to see outside the headset without removing it. This is done via the PS VR2’s embedded front cameras. So you won’t need to needlessly remove the headset- or wear it halfway awkwardly- every time you need to glance the room or need to find where the controllers are.

PlayStation makes an important note that you cannot record what you see from the see-through view, for privacy reasons.

The other neat quality-of-life feature is a customised play area. No need to ensure you have a perfectly rectangular empty space in the room to have a VR setup. The PS VR lets you config a play area with custom sizes by scanning the room using both the embedded cameras on the headset and the PS VR2 Sense controllers.

The play area needs to be set so you can get a warning should you are close to approaching the boundaries of your play area.

You can also broadcast yourself playing with the PS VR2 should you have a PS5 HD Camera, and there is a Cinematic Mode where you can access non-VR content (including the PS5 system) on a virtual cinema screen.

The PS VR2 has no release date yet, but PlayStation has confirmed that developers will begin getting access to these features soon. So looks like it will still be a while before the VR headset is ready for release.
