Sean Miller will be taking on the role as the Head of Overwatch League, taking over from Jon Spector who will be transitioning to the role of Commercial Leader for Overwatch.

Overwatch League made an exciting statement yesterday evening, announcing a change in leadership roles as the team prepares for the next season. Miller, who previously served as the Senior Manager of Product Strategy and Team Operations, will be at the head of the Overwatch League going into the 2022 season. The announcement, which was posted to Twitter, read, “We are excited to welcome Sean Miller back as he rejoins a team preparing for an exciting 2022 season.”

“Sean brings a passion for the league and the franchise and is ready to lead the team as we press ‘go’ on a season that will run entirely on an early build of OW2’s new PvP competitive mode.”

Miller replaces Jon Spector who joined Blizzard in 2017 as a director for Overwatch League, taking on the vice president role at the beginning of 2020. Spector will be taking on the Commercial Leader role for Overwatch. Yesterday, Spector posted his gratitude to the Overwatch community via Twitter, saying of his new position, “I am thrilled to be stepping into a new role as the Commercial Leader for Overwatch. Given my passion for this game and the entire ecosystem around it, I am humbled to be given the opportunity to help lead the Overwatch franchise into its next chapter.”

“I plan to remain involved in helping the League from my new position and expect I will be well positioned to do so.”

The announcement comes in the middle of the OWL offseason. Jan. 3, 2022 marks the deadline for all teams to have a minimum of five players signed to season-long contracts for the 2022 season.
