Warcraft Mobile Game Scrapped Due to Financing Dispute

A spinoff of World of Warcraft had been in development for more than three years. Now, Blizzard and NetEase Inc. have canceled the WoW MMORPG mobile game.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Blizzard and NetEase Inc. disagreed with terms which caused the project to be halted. The canceled video game, code-named Neptune, was set to become a massive multiplayer online role-playing game set in the WoW universe.

The decision to cancel the release puts Blizzard’s partnership with China’s No. 2 gaming giant at an uncertainty. The decision appears to have also caused NetEase to disband a team of more than 100 developers that worked to create content for the title.

The company has also canceled another video game based on Warcraft, similar in vein to Pokémon GO. The project was code-named Orbis and had been in development for more than four years.
