What We Played #522 – Guardians of the Galaxy, Riders Republic and Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water

Excitement is definitely arriving as we’re starting to see the games that many of us will be asking to appear under the Christmas tree. That said, if you’ve got Game Pass you don’t need a white-bearded chap to shove anything down your chimney, as you’ve got Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 coming your way as part of your subscription. Having played bits of both you’re almost certainly going to have a merry Christmas. I’ve also been playing Age of Empires 4 and Shin Megami Tensei V, both of which are pretty great, though similarly very keen on sticking to the old ways rather than forging much that’s new.

Gareth has been playing Diablo 2, but not that much since he’s had the flu. I think we can all agree that we hope he gets well soon so he can play more Diablo 2. Meanwhile Tuffcub played Those Who Remain for about ten minutes, with his early impressions being “That was enough. Seemed quite basic.” Hardly a glowing recommendation.

Nic B has spent more time with… Pokémon Go! He’s finally hit level 4, which he assures us is no mean feat. He’s also tried his hand at Days Gone, saying “it’s less good than I had hoped, but I’m intrigued to see where it’s going.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Combat

Aran played Guardians of the Galaxy for review saying “it’s fun but my play through was marred by issues”. He’s also started Backbone for review. Nick P has found time for something else alongside his usual Dead By Daylight and Fortnite shenanigans, playing Killsquad for review and Darkest Dungeon 2. He tells us, “DD2 has changed radically from the first game but I’m really liking what they have done. This game will only get better over time, too.”

Steve played Project Zero:Maiden of Black Water Remaster for review “which was suitably spooky but lacked the tactility of the Wii U original.” He also worked through a few playthroughs of interactive movie Blood shore – review coming next week. Alongside those he’s dipped into a few Gamepass titles for rewards but nothing’s really stuck at the moment. He finished by telling us, “got a few Quest titles lined up too so will be freaking out the cats.” Is this an RSPCA matter? Probably not, cats troll humans all the time.

Jim has been chipping away at Deathloop. He tells us, “After hitting a bit of a roadblock, I popped up my investigation board and began digging for more clues on the Visionaries, ransacking a lab complex for notes and voice recordings to discover a fresh lead. As I’ve said before, I never really clicked with Dishonored or Prey so was heavily sceptical about Deathloop though I’m glad I took the dive.”

Riders Republic Beta Chaos

He’s also been plugged into Riders Republic, saying. “It’s wild, mindless fun that can get brutal at times, especially when ramping up the difficulty to expert or tackling the super finnicky stunt courses. Even after several hours, I get the impression that I’m only scraping the surface. One part of the game I knew I had to see in action was the Mass Races. 50 players thrown into a three-round tournament where you’ll suddenly switch between bikes, skis, wingsuits, and other extreme sports pursuits. Mass Races sure are hectic, but they’re great fun.”

Miguel spent his birthday (which was yesterday_ with some Metroid Dread, and was contemplating starting up Deathloop too! He’s also been messing around with The Good Life this week for a review we can expect soon. But for now, let’s wish Miguel Happy Birthday!

Finally we come to Tef, who’s been playing and reviewed Mario Party Superstars, dipped back into Back 4 Blood to replay the early stages with all his power ups, and has been playing a little bit of Grow: Song of the Evertree for a preview.

Now then, what have you been playing?
