It appears that Netflix’s hit fantasy show The Witcher may be able to resume production on its second season sometime soon. Deadline reports that production studio Arborfield in the UK–where The Witcher is filmed–will be open for business again “in the coming weeks.”
Arborfield shut down in March after Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju–who is joining The Witcher for Season 2–tested positive for coronavirus. Arborfield’s Bob Terry told Deadline that plans are underway to open the production studio soon, and he’s is currently in the midst of meetings to come up with safety procedures. However, it remains to be seen when, exactly, The Witcher Season 2 will begin filming again.
Season 1 filmed in Budapest, but production moved to the UK for Season 2. According to reports, the production at Arborfield includes “several” sound stages and two backlots.
The Witcher Season 2 is expected to premiere in 2021. It comes after a highly successful debut season in 2019 which set a record for the “biggest” first season of any Netflix show ever at the time.
