2022 Peach Bowl Preview

The 2022 Peach Bowl features the 11-1 Ohio State Buckeyes against the 13-0 Georgia Bulldogs. Here is the 2022 Peach Bowl preview.

Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1)

Ohio State won 11 games to reach their first College Football Playoff since 2020. The Buckeyes defeated six bowl-eligible teams in 2022: Notre Dame, Toledo, Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State and Maryland. Their only loss of the season came to CFP-bound Michigan.

The Buckeyes score 44.5 points per game, ranking them second in the country. They pass for 294.2 yards (ranked 14th) and rush for 198.5 yards per game (ranked 28th).

C.J. Stroud was a Heisman finalist after a fantastic regular season. He passed for 3,340 yards, 37 touchdowns and six interceptions on 66.2 percent completion. They have four players with at least 350 receiving yards on the year. Marvin Harrsion Jr. has been a standout with 72 catches for 1,157 yards and 12 touchdowns. Emeka Egbuka has also been great with 66 catches for 1,039 yards and nine touchdowns.

The leading running back coming into the season, TreVeyon Henderson, is out for this game with an injury. Miyan Williams has been banged up this season, but he is expected to play in this game. He has 817 yards and 13 touchdowns on the year. Behind him, Dallan Hayden has been productive with 510 yards and five touchdowns.

Their defense gives up 19.3 points per game, which places them 13th in the country. They allow 184 passing yards (ranked 16th) and 119.9 rushing yards per game (ranked 23rd). Linebacker Tommy Eichenberg has led the team with 112 total tackles. Michael Hall and Jack Sawyer are tied for the team-high with 4.5 sacks. Safety Ronnie Hickman has patrolled the backend of the defense well with six passes defended and one interception.

Georgia Bulldogs (13-0)

Georgia went undefeated to make their second straight College Football Playoff. They defeated Oregon, South Carolina, Missouri, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Kentucky and LSU, who all made bowl games this season.

The offense scores 39.2 points per game, which ranks them 11th in the FBS. They average 284.9 passing yards (ranked 19th) and 207 rushing yards per game (ranked 17th).

Former walk-on Stetson Bennett is leading the Bulldogs for the second-straight season. He has passed for 3,425 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions on 68.1 percent completion. Six different players have at least 250 receiving yards this season. The leading receiver is tight end Brock Bowers with 52 receptions for 726 yards and six touchdowns. Ladd McConkey has been impressive at receiver for the Bulldogs with 52 catches for 675 yards and five touchdowns.

Four running backs have at least 250 rushing yards on the season. Kenny McIntosh, Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton have been a three-headed monster with 709, 681 and 533 rushing yards respectively. McIntosh leads the team with 10 rushing touchdowns.

Defensively, the Bulldogs allow 12.8 points per game, ranking them second in the country. They concede 215.1 passing yards (ranked 49th) and 77 rushing yards per game (ranked 1st). Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Smael Mondon Jr. and Malaki Starks are tied for the team-lead with 64 total tackles. Dumas Johnson and Jalen Carter each have three sacks, which is the team-high for healthy players. Starks has seven passes defended and two interceptions, while Kelee Ringo has been their best cover corner with six passes defended and two interceptions.

Prediction

Georgia has been a dominant team all season long. They have won some ugly games, but their defense has been elite this season. Ohio State couldn’t score enough points against Michigan, so it will likely be hard to against Georgia as well.
