Williams took a huge jump from year one to year two to improve his draft stock. He is now a member of the 2022 NBA Draft class.

Out of high school, Williams was a four-star prospect who stayed in-state to play for the Razorbacks. He averaged 3.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as a freshman. As a sophomore, Williams improved to put up 10.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. His play helped Arkansas reach the Elite Eight of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Following the 2022 NCAA Tournament, Williams decided to take his game to the next level. He is currently projected to be a late first-round pick or early second-round pick.

Jaylin Williams Strengths

Williams can be a very good defensive player at the NBA level. He moves decently well for a big man and that good footwork can help him when switched on to a smaller defender. His athleticism allowed him to not just switch, but produce at a high level. He averaged 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game, which shows his defensive versatility. His defensive prowess is also shown in his ability to take charges, something he did extremely well for Arkansas.

It isn’t likely that he can be a three-level scorer, but he has the potential to be a two-level scorer in the NBA. He finishes at the rim well with dunks and layups with solid athleticism. Williams also has shown that he can hit mid-range shots, but will need to be more consistent in this area to really be a threat. His shot form could use some work and could really help him be a solid mid-range scorer.

His passing is really good for a big man. When he gets the ball in the high-post, he sees the floor really well. He specifically reads defenses well when he catches the ball off of a pick and roll. The defenses moves to stop him and the initial ball handler. When he catches in the mid-range he does a good job of finding the open man and getting his team an easier bucket.

Jaylin Williams Weaknesses

Williams is not a 3-point shooter. He shot 23.9 percent from deep at Arkansas during his sophomore season. As mentioned, his shot form will need some work, because as things currently sit, the release takes too long. Improving his outside shooting will allow him to play the four-spot or stay on the floor longer as a small-ball center.

When playing defense, Williams leaves his feet entirely too often. He falls for pump fakes and then is put out of position when trying to recover. This happens near the perimeter and near the basket. He needs to stay more disciplined and play straight-up defense more often.

Like many other prospects, Williams can add weight to his frame. He weighs just 236 pounds and will need to add muscle to finish better around the rim and match up with bigger players defensively. As a player that will likely log a lot of minutes as a center, adding muscle will help him deal with the bigger and stronger players.

Projected Draft Range: Late First Round Pick-Early Second Round Pick
