Jurassic World Evolution 2: Dominion Biosyn DLC expansion reveals feathered dinos

Frontier has announced the Dominion Biosyn DLC expansion for their dinosaur park management sim Jurassic World Evolution 2. The expansion will launch on 14th June across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, tying in with the release of the Jurassic World Dominion movie.

The new expansion is a nice way for Frontier to tap into the new film’s launch, which has been delayed multiple times due to Covid restrictions, meaning that Jurassic World Evolution 2’s original release no longer synced up with the film.

Dominion Biosyn will see characters like Claire Dearing (voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard), Dr. Alan Grant (voiced by Sam Neill) and Dr. Ellie Sattler (voiced by Laura Dern) returning to the game, while players will now work alongside Lewis Dodgson (voiced by Campbell Scott), who is now head of Biosyn Genetics. The new DLC campaign will see you tasked with constructing a brand new research compound in multiple stages, digging into amber mines to unearth rare genomes and find feathered species of dinosaur that have never been been seen in a Frontier game before.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 Biosyn Therizinosaurus

The Therizinosaurus is one of several new, feathered dinos coming to Jurassic World Evolution 2

These include the Therizinosaurus, a fiercely territorial foliage-grazer with curved claws; and the Pyroraptor, an intelligent pack-hunter, so-named after the first fossils were uncovered by a forest fire. There’s also the carnivorous Dimetrodon, which became extinct before dinosaurs first appeared, and Quetzalcoatlus, one of the largest flying animals of all time. These are joined by new variants and skins, including a feathered and carred T-Rex, new skins for the Dilophosaurus and Parasaurolophus, as well as variants for the Dreadnoughtus and Giganotosaurus.

With the jump to Biosyn’s side, there’s new advanced tech features to tap into when building up your park, such as invisible fences to keep dinosaurs in their enclosures, and a fast transport hyperloop system to connect buildings up, in addition to the regular above ground roads and pathways.

The new DLC expansion will also add a new ‘what if?’ scenario in the Chaos Theory mode, inspired by Dominion. This is set in the Sierra Nevada environment building a new facility to act as a sanctuary for dinosaurs.

The paid DLC will launch alongside a free update that will add new dinosaur-wrangling techniques, so you can herd groups of dinosaurs together without needing to rely on tranquillisers and transport. You can also play Chaos Theory maps as Challenge mode levels, there’s dino transport enhancements and more.

In our review for Jurassic World Evolution 2, Dom wrote: “Jurassic World Evolution 2 is bigger, better, and bolder, and smooths off some of the original’s rough edges. Frontier has tinkered with the management sim aspects, and brought in a canonical campaign into the mix that follows directly on from the events in Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, but the dinosaurs remain the star of the show. If you’re a fan of the franchise – and really, who doesn’t love uncontrollable carnivores? – then Jurassic World Evolution 2 is a perfect sequel.”
