PlayStation Plus June 2022 freebie games have been confirmed

Sony has now officially confirmed the games that are being included with PlayStation Plus (Essential) subscriptions in June 2022. Why the ‘essential’ in brackets, though? Well that’s because June also marks the staggered relaunch of the subscription service with three tiers, a game library and retro game streaming – more about that here.

You’re here for June’s games, though, and here’s what you’ll be able to grab from the 7th June. Was the leak about God of War and more correct as always? (Spoiler: yes)

What will the PS Plus June 2022 games be?

Sony has now confirmed what Areajugones and billbil-kun told us in the last few days, revealing that God of War 2018 will be the headline game in PS Plus June. Considering that it’s already been given away with PS Plus Collection, and that it’s included in the PS Plus Extra game library, some people are a bit miffed.

Here’s the full line up:

If you’ve not already played it or been given it for free for buying a PS5 – maybe you’re a humble PS4 owner still? – then God of War is the must-play game in this selection of three games. One of the biggest PlayStation exclusives of the last generation, it reboots the series with Kratos having grown older, started a new family and matured as a father figure to his son. Now with a pantheon of Norse gods to rip and tear his way through, while looking after his son Atreus, it drew plaudits from across the games industry for its narrative, overhauled combat, and graphical excellence.

It’s a great time to play or replay the game, what with the sequel God of War Ragnarok coming out later this year – rumoured to be in September.

Beside that we have Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker. In our review, Jason said, “This might be the first Naruto game in a long time that does something new, blending anime with class-based online battles. The idea may seem a little strange but it works well, and it would be great to see Bandai Namco build off this with other anime franchises in future. Shinobi Striker is well worth your time if you like the Naruto series and even worth trying out if you just want a new multiplayer experience to get lost in.”

Finaly, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a Super Smash Bros. style brawler that will hopefully keep any kids in your household quiet. This is the cross-gen PS5 game in the selection.

When will PS Plus June 2022 games officially be released?

We’re in the unusual situation of June’s PS Plus games being announced within June! The announcement comes on the Wednesday before the first Tuesday of the month, which is when the game’s go live. For June 2022, it’s fallen in such a way that it’s Tuesday 7th June.

Can I still download the May 2022 PlayStation Plus Games?

Absolutely! The PlayStation Plus games for May included a bit of footie with FIFA 22 (with a bonus FIfA Ultimate Team pack), the roguelike Tribes of Midgard and co-op roguelite Curse of the Dead Gods. You have right up until the June selection of games goes live to grab them.

What’s the whole PlayStation Plus relaunch thing?

PlayStation Plus is changing in June, as Sony combine their long-running PS Plus subscription for online gaming and other services with the game subscription library of PS Now under one banner. Rolling out region-by-region through June, PS Plus will soon have three tiers, with the basic PS Plus Essential tier exactly the same as what PS Plus is today. PS Plus Extra then adds a catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games into the mix, while PS Plus Deluxe and Premium (depending on your region) adds older PS2, PS1 and PSP game emulation, and game streaming for PS3 and other titles.
