The DioField Chronicle Details Various Objective Types In The Strategy RPG, Including Escort Missions

Square Enix shared some new details for the upcoming strategy/tactical RPG The DioField Chronicle. Developed by Square Enix and Lancrase, this take on a strategy RPG is a bit different in that it’s played in real-time (with pause), not turn-based. So it’s a lot closer to a top-down view western CRPG than it is like the usual strategy RPG titles from Japan.

Missions in The DioField Chronicle feature different objectives required to be completed. One of them is defeating a specific enemy. Such scenarios will see that specific enemy being supported by lackeys, but you are only required to defeat that one person to complete it. Something to remember when you want to complete missions under the par time- there are optional objectives where you can finish the mission under the required time which nets you better rewards in doing so.

There are also defence missions where you must defend barricades. These missions will require you to strategically position your units to cover the incoming horde of enemies. You can take hold of a defensive position, or assault the enemies before they can get too close to the objective.

The last objective type revealed here might be a bit contentious, because it’s an escort mission. One example requires you to defend a moving carriage, while enemies place barricades and other obstacles to slow the carriage down to attack it. Your units can route around the barricades, so it’s possible to clear out the enemies before the carriage gets too close to the enemies.

Also, battle speed can be adjusted to be 1.5 or 2 times faster. However, the only way to pause the game seems to be when you are issuing commands for the units.

There’s a The DioField Chronicle demo available right now on PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Switch, which may or may not give you a taste of all the objective types mentioned.

The DioField Chronicle launches on September 22 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
