Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja’s upcoming soulslike Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty now has a demo available on the next-gen consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The demo released last Friday, announced during Tokyo Game Show 2022.

The demo is only for a limited time, per tradition with Team Ninja soulslike games (or “masocore” games as the publisher prefers it to be referred to). The demo will be live until September 25.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty takes place during the Three Kingdoms era of ancient China, but with a demonic twist. Expect to fight Yellow Turban soldiers, alive and undead, as well as other demons that litter around the twisty maps filled with secrets to discover.

And this game isn’t just Nioh but with a change of scenery. Many of the familiar mechanics have been tweaked to promote aggressive offence but patient defence play. Instead of a stamina meter, there’s a spirit meter that can build positive or negative meter where you can build meter by constantly landing hits but lose meter after every damage taken, block and dodge. Powerful spirit attacks and martial arts consumes spirit meter. And there’s also a stealth mechanic now as well.

The comparisons to Sekiro Shadows Die Twice have some merit to them.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is scheduled to release in early 2023 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The game will launch day-1 on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
