Why Did ESIC Ban 10 Australian CSGO Players?

The Esports Integrity coalition works with stakeholders to protect the integrity of the competitive scene. Recently, ESIC’s investigation resulted in thirty-seven CS:GO coaches receiving various degrees of punishment for abusing a visual bug in the game.
After its latest investigations, ESIC has now issued bans to twelve ESEA MDL CS:GO players. The joint investigation with ESEA MDL found the players guilty of placing bets on CS:GO matches, including their own. The investigation also found several associates of the players placing bets on the players’ matches.
Here are the seven players with twelve-month bans from ESIC member tournaments. The players are mostly from Team Rooster and Team Rooster 2. Team Rooster recently won the DreamHack Masters Winter 2020: Oceanic Qualifier after a 2-0 victory over Chiefs Esports Club.

- Daryl “Mayker” May.
- Corey “nettik” Browne.
- Damian “JD” Simonovic.
- Carlos “Rackem” Jefferys.
- Joshua “jhd” Hough-Devine.
ESIC said the initial findings are a part of a wider ongoing investigation. As such, the organization will refrain from making further comments pending the investigation’s outcome.
ESIC members include ESL, DreamHack, WePlay and BLAST among others. The seven players will not be able to take part in any tournaments by these organizers., which comprises the majority of CS:GO events. ESIC has issued notices to the players and also provided them with mechanisms to appeal the ruling.

ESIC has an ongoing wider investigation that involves match-fixing and betting. However, the organization has referred the matter to law enforcement agencies in Australia and things could get worse for the players. According to Chad ‘Spunj’ Burchill the players could face criminal charges down under.
