Online Servers For Killzone Mercenary, Killzone Shadow Fall, RIGS, Shutting Down This August

Guerrilla announced that three of its games will have its online servers shut down. Killzone Mercenary (the PS Vita game first released in 2013), Killzone Shadow Fall (the PS4 launch title FPS) and RIGS: Mechanized Combat League (a PSVR launch game) will all have their online servers shut down on August 12.

Single-player offline modes will remain available, so the campaign for both Killzone games remain playable after this. Thankfully, even the multi-player-focused RIGS also has a single-player campaign as well, so the game will still be in playable form after the servers have closed.

Push Square reported that Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept, the standalone co-op mode for Killzone Shadow Fall, will be leaving the PS Plus Extra’s Game Catalog. Now we know why it is so.

It’s another reminder that online modes won’t be left up forever, there are costs to ensure the servers are running and for a game over five years since release, the playerbase might have been gone. But it still sucks to see a portion of a game being inaccessible for the foreseeable future.
