PS5 Latest Firmware Update Adds 1440p Support, Folders And More

A new PS5 firmware update is now live. This particular update basically has all the features of the previously limited beta release, which includes support for 1440p and Gamelists, the PS5 UI’s version of a folder.

1440p, the resolution between 1080p and 4K, is more commonly found on PC monitors than TVs, but this means the PS5 can be more compatible with folks using such devices. However, variable refresh rate (VRR) is not supported at 1440p, only at 1080p and 4K.

This is likely due to VRR being tech tied to HDMI standards, and 1440p is not a common resolution for consumer TVs.

The other main feature is Gamelists. This is a handy way to group and organise your library of games. This is located in the “Your Collection” tab of the Game Library (at the rightmost end of the scrolling menus).
