Seattle Mariners Trade for Carlos Santana

The Mariners completed a trade to bring first baseman Carlos Santana to Seattle. In return, the Kansas City Royals will receive pitchers Wyatt Mills and William Fleming. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the news.

Santana, 36, has batted .216 with four home runs and 21 RBIs with the Royals this season. He has also spent time with Cleveland and Philadelphia in his 13-year career.

Seattle will use Santana to spell Ty France at first base and will also get him some reps as the designated hitter. The acquisition should help the Mariners, who sit six games below .500 as things currently sit.

The Royals have struggled this season and are 26-45. They are offloading contributors and rebuilding.

Mills has played 19 games in the majors as a 27-year-old reliever. Most of his time has been spent in the minor leagues. He has a 1.83 ERA in AAA this season, but a 4.15 ERA in the big leagues.

Fleming has played in A-Ball and is a 23-year-old right-handed pitcher. He has 4.52 ERA this season.
