Three Ubisoft Games To Raise Environmental Awareness via In-Game Events

Ubisoft will have three of its games host in-game events to bring environmental awareness to players, ahead of the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference.

These “activations” are part of the Green Game Jam, organised by the Playing For The Planet Alliance, an initiative facilitated by the UN Environment Programme.

Ubisoft is a founding member of the Playing For The Planet Alliance.

The three games and their in-game events that are part of the Green Game Jam are as follows:

  • Brawlhalla
    • new in-game emote that animates the growth of the Yggdrasil tree. All proceeds from emote sales goes to supporting real-world reforestation efforts via The World Tree Initiative
    • Sales begin November 2
  • Hungry Shark World
    • Protect The Baby Sharks Event: rescue baby sharks and preserve the future of the ocean’s ecosystems
    • Begins November 8
  • Trackmania (2020)
    • Green Weekend: Three featured tracks as Track Of The Day, playable for free
    • Featured tracks are winners from player-submitted entries to create environmental-themed tracks last summer
    • Begins November 11

Not only that, each game will work with a partner to contribute to real-world action on the issues.

Hungry Shark World will be partnering with Glowing Glowing Gone to “amplify their campaign in support of greater ocean protection and the preservation and restoration of coral reefs”.

Meanwhile, Brawhalla and Trackmania will be giving money to their partner Ecologi to “contribute to reforestation efforts by planting more than 20,000 trees”.

“What makes video games a unique form of entertainment is their ability to immerse the player and make them an active participant in the world around them. This makes games the ideal playground to concretely show players what is at stake when we talk about climate change,” said Nicolas Hunsinger, Director of Corporate Environmental Sustainability at Ubisoft.

“We’re proud of the ways in which the Brawlhalla, Hungry Shark World and Trackmania teams have leveraged their creativity to engage players in conversations about environmental issues and inspire them to act.”
